Overview
This unit can use BOOTP to assign an IP address to the management of the device. It will not take an address of a DHCP server upon every reboot. DHCP support requires the use of a lease-time and is an extension of the BOOTP protocol. You must give the device an address via a BOOTP server, such as NETSIGHT ELEMENT MANAGER's Remote Access Tools, or via local console. The following discussion describes how the IP-STATE under IP CONFIGURATION relates to this.
Discussion
Under the IP CONFIGURATION via local console or telnet to the device, you will see the following screen.

                   SmartSTACK Local Management -- ELS100-S24TX2M

                   Network Configuration : IP Configuration

                        Interface Type : Ethernet

                          IP Address  : 172.26.4.24

                          Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

                          Gateway IP  : 172.26.4.1

                          IP State    : USER-CONFIG

               <APPLY>               <OK>               <CANCEL>

The IP state can be USER-CONFIG, in which the IP is manually entered via the console - or can be programmed from a BOOTP server. The IP state will show up as follows for setting up for BOOTP.
                         IP State    : BOOTP-GET-IP

Once the device has received its IP address via BOOTP, it will assume that this is a permanent address, unlike DHCP which uses a lease-time, and therefore the IP state will change to USER-CONFIG.
