ELS100-24Tx/TxG/TxM models not processing traps

Document ID:  tb1064-9
Date:  2000/6/29 08:16:36
Products Affected:  SM-CSI1064
Part Number(s):  SPECTRUM-5.0-CD
 Revisions Affected:  5.0rev1
Product Families:
Other Keywords:  -No Keywords Listed-

Overview
Devices modeled in the SPECTRUM database using the Els100_Tx, Els100_TxG and Els100_TxM model-types will not process traps received by the SpectroSERVER for those devices. The result being no alarm on the Els100_Tx/TxG/TxM model in SPECTRUM for any trap that is supposed to generate an alarm in SPECTRUM.
Identification Criteria
If the SpectroSERVER receives a trap from an ELS100-24TX/TXG/TXM device modeled in the database using the Els100_Tx, Els100_TxG or Els100_TxM model-types, the trap will not be processed for the model in the database. The trap will be recorded as an event on the VNM model like the following example:

  1. 5:16:48 Wed 28 Jun, 2000 - 15:16:48 - Trap 4.0 received from unknown SNMP device with agent 172.19.59.26 , enterprise identifier 1.3.6.1.4.1.52 , and community public. (event 00010802)
Workaround
The $SPECROOT/CsVendor directory does not have the proper EventDisp and AlertMap files needed to process traps correctly for the Els100_Tx,Els100_TxG and Els100_TxM model types. Use the following instructions to create the proper directories/files for these model types to process traps:

  1. cd to the $SPECROOT/SS/CsVendor directory.
  2. Enter mkdir Sriram to create the Sriram directory.
  3. Enter chmod 777 Sriram to make the Sriram directory read/write.
  4. cd to the Sriram directory.
  5. Enter mkdir Els100_Tx to create the Els100_Tx directory.
  6. Enter mkdir Els100_TxG to create the Els100_TxG directory.
  7. Enter mkdir Els100_TxM to create the Els100_TxM directory.
  8. Enter chmod 777 Els100_Tx to make the Els100_Tx read/write.
  9. Enter chmod 777 Els100_TxG to make the Els100_TxG read/write.
  10. 0. Enter chmod 777 Els100_TxM to make the Els100_TxM read/write.
  11. 1. Copy the EventDisp file located in the $SPECROOT/SS/CsVendor/Ctron_FNET directory into the $SPECROOT/SS/CsVendor/Sriram directory.
  12. 2. Copy the AlertMap file located in the $SPECROOT/SS/CsVendor/Ctron_FNET/CSI_ELS100 directory into the $SPECROOT/SS/CsVendor/Sriram/Els100_Tx, $SPECROOT/SS/CsVendor/Sriram/Els100_TxG, and $SPECROOT/SS/CsVendor/Sriram/Els100_TxM directories.
  13. 3. Restart the SpectroSERVER.
Solution
This issue only effects SPECTRUM 5.0rev1 installs. This is not an issue in 6.0rev0. This issue will be resolved in a future maintenance release for 5.0rev1.
