The Internet Engineering Task Force
The IETF maintains documents that attempt to continue the operation of the Internet and ensure its evolution. The IETF
produces two types of documents: Internet Drafts and Request for Comments (RFCs). Enterasys supports the IETF by participating
in the standards process and maintains a database of all RFCs and Internet-Drafts.
Standards Definitions
Internet Drafts
Internet Drafts are informal documents that can be changed or deleted at any time. These documents serve as working documents, and give the status of work that has been done on that topic.
Request for Comments
RFCs are official documents and recommendations for proposed standards. The assumption that all RFCs are standards is not correct, but there are a few RFCs that have been given the status of a standard. Their sole purpose is to make recommendations, and unlike Internet Drafts, once created are never changed or destroyed.
IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA)
The IEEE-SA is an international membership organization serving today's industries with a complete portfolio of standards programs. Both individual and corporate participation in the IEEE-SA affords many membership opportunities. For more information on i
ndividual and corporate membership, visit the IEEE web site.
