General Tab
(Role)

The role General tab lets you assign default class of service and/or default access control for the selected role. You can also enable TCI Overwrite functionality for the role, and enter or edit the description of the role. To access this tab, select a role in the left panel's Roles tab, then select the General tab in the right panel. Any additions or changes you make to this tab must be enforced in order to take effect.
Click the graphic for more information.

Default Class of Service
CoS
Policy Manager lets you define classes of service that each include an 802.1p priority, and optionally an IP type of service (ToS/DSCP) value, rate limits, and transmit queue configuration. You can then assign a class of service as a default for a role. See Getting Started with Class of Service and How to Create a Class of Service for more information.

To choose a default class of service for the role, select the CoS checkbox. This opens the Classes of Service Selection View, where you can choose a default class of service for the role or create a new one. If you want to change an existing default class of service, click the CoS Select button, select a class of service, and click OK.
NOTE: If you select a CoS with a ToS/DSCP value, the ToS/DSCP value will be ignored, because ToS/DSCP rewrite works only for certain IP ToS classification rules, not as a role default.
Select Button (CoS)
Opens the Classes of Service Selection View, where you can choose a default Class of Service for the role.
Default Access Control
Access Control
To enable default access control (a default VLAN), select this checkbox. You can permit traffic to be forwarded, deny traffic altogether, or contain traffic to a VLAN.
Permit (Use Existing Port VLAN)
This option allows traffic to be forwarded with the port's assigned VID.
Deny Traffic
If this option is selected, traffic will automatically be sent to a discard VLAN. If no discard VLANs exist, a blank Discard VLANs Selection View appears. There you can create and select a new discard VLAN to use. If there is more than one discard VLAN from which to choose, the Deny Traffic Select button is available. This opens the Discard VLANs Selection View, where you can choose a different default discard VLAN.
Contain To VLAN
This option contains traffic to a specific VLAN. It automatically opens the VLANs Selection View, where you can choose a contain VLAN. If a contain VLAN is already selected, you can select another one by clicking the Contain To VLAN Select button.
Select Button (Deny)
This button is available if you have selected Deny Traffic and there is more than one Discard VLAN from which to choose. It opens the Discard VLANs Selection View, where you can select a different Discard VLAN.
Select Button (Contain)
Lets you change the VLAN specified for the Contain to VLAN option. Opens the Contain VLANs Selection View, where you can choose a different VLAN.
TCI Overwrite
In this area, you can enable or disable TCI Overwrite functionality for the role. Enabling TCI Overwrite allows the VLAN (access control) and class of service characteristics defined in this role to overwrite the VLAN or class of service tag in a received packet. This functionality is required for Tagged Packet VLAN to Role Mapping. You can also enable TCI Overwrite on a per-port basis in a port's General tab.

Description
In this area, you can add or modify the description of the role.
