Installation and Configuration Notes

The Gnu zipped tar file, rmbt-300.gz, contains the software and the RoamAbout_Linux.html file. The RoamAbout_Linux.html file provides the setup and installation information for the Linux driver.

Perform the following steps to extract the software and to read the RoamAbout_Linux.html file:

  1. Download the RoamAbout driver, rmbt-300.gz, from the web site.

  2. Change the directory to /usr/local.

  3. Insert and mount the diskette as a DOS file system under Linux:
  4. # mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt

  5. Enter the following command to copy the distribution file to the Linux computer:
  6. # cp /mnt/rmbt-xxx.gz /usr/local/rmbt-xxx.gz

  7. Enter the following command to extract the file:
  8. # tar xvfz rmbt-xxx.gz

The following files are extracted under /usr/local in the Enterasys directory:

    ./Enterasys/RoamAbout/RoamAbout-1-4.i386.rpm
    ./Enterasys/RoamAbout/RoamAbout-1-4-src.tar
    ./Enterasys/RoamAbout/RoamAbout-1-3-src.tar
    ./Enterasys/RoamAbout/RoamAbout_Linux.html
    ./Enterasys/RoamAbout/RoamAboutInstall.sh
    ./Enterasys/RoamAbout/RoamAboutUninstall.sh

  9. Change the directory to /usr/local/Enterasys/RoamAbout.

  10. Enter the following command to install the binary distribution:

    #sh RoamAboutInstall.sh

This command executes rpm -ivh RoamAbout-1-4.i386.rpm and places the collection of loadable modules containing the roamabout_cs.o binary driver, compiled for different Linux vendors, in /usr/local/Enterasys/RoamAbout.

  11. Open the RoamAbout_Linux.html file using your browser for setup and installation instructions.
