ANDOVER, MA-- February 23, 2004--Enterasys Networks Inc. (NYSE: ETS) today announced a new partnership with Lucent Technologies, comprised of several new initiatives focused on delivering Secure Networks and comprehensive services solutions to enterprise customers worldwide. As a first phase of the overall partnership, Lucent has joined the Enterasys Secure Networks Certified Technology Partner Program as its founding member. In addition, the Company announced that it has expanded its portfolio of Secure Networks solutions with its Dynamic Intrusion Response Solution.
"Lucent's extensive market reach coupled with their expertise in implementing comprehensive solutions for global customers, allows us to expand our market reach with our Secure Networks solutions on an accelerated basis," said Mark Aslett, President of Enterasys Networks. "As we continue to focus intensely on Secure Networks and launch additional solutions into the market, we are pleased to be working with global partners like Lucent that further strengthen our Secure Networks value proposition to customers."
Enterasys' Secure Networks represent a "new way of networking" for enterprise customers. The embedded technology in Enterasys' ASICS, firmware and application software allows the network to play an active role in securing customers' IT infrastructures. These features include centralized policy-based networking, automated network management and advanced user authentication. As these embedded features are ubiquitous across the Enterasys product family and complement already deployed security appliances, they allow customers to build an entire secure network or significantly enhance the security of a multi-vendor network without the need to replace the existing infrastructure.
"We've all seen how security concerns around enterprise networks have risen over the past couple of years, and we're pleased to be the founding member of Enterasys' new partner program to address this concern," said John Meyer, President, Lucent Worldwide Services. "By working together with Enterasys, we can help build reliable and secure networks addressing these needs and making enterprise networks less vulnerable to attack. By leveraging the strengths of both companies in security and converged networks, Lucent and Enterasys will be able to provide enterprise customers increased network security and reduced network downtime."
Secure Networks Certified Technology Partner Program
To ensure the seamless integration of best-of- breed security technology and services for customers, Enterasys has formed the Secure Networks Certified Partner Program (SNCPP). This partner program delivers a powerful capability to offer enterprises common solution architecture for Secure Networks by combining technologies and best practices. It removes the complexity involved in increasing the security level of multi-vendor networking environments, through Enterasys' qualification, testing, certification, and delivery to customers of best practice recommendations for the partner products in the SNCPP. The SNCPP will implement a proactive, best- practice response to the network infrastructure as a comprehensive integration point for all security intelligence and capability. Partner products will be certified within Enterasys' Secure Networks framework. This approach identifies and addresses the current realities of a multi-vendor, multi-product network environment. These partnerships will include such categories as anti-virus, firewall, virtual private networking, and intrusion defense and vulnerability assessment functionality. In combination with the advanced security features in Enterasys' product portfolio, a significantly progressive and agile set of solutions will be made available to customers globally through the SNCPP.As both a strategic alliance partner to Enterasys and founding member of the SNCPP, Lucent's VitalQIPTM automated IP Address Management and Audit Manager software, and NavisRadiusTM AAA software solutions, and VPN Firewall Brick (R) products will be among the first certified within the Enterasys Secure Networks framework. The companies will also leverage the security practice that is part of Lucent Worldwide Services, which includes a full lifecycle of services, including advanced network assessment and deployment and maintenance and network operations.
New Dynamic Intrusion Response Solution
Enterasys is also announcing a new solution, Dynamic Intrusion Response, that strengthens its leadership position in Secure Networks. As a first move in the industry, the Enterasys Dynamic Intrusion Response Solution will enable organizations to implement an automated, closed-loop system for intrusion detection, network management and intrusion response, allowing enterprises to shorten the response time to security threats and provide a higher level of security than is achievable with any other offering in the market. This solution fully integrates the capabilities of Enterasys' Dragon intrusion defense system (IDS), NetSight Atlas network management and the company's policy-based switching infrastructure. This automated, policy based model provides enterprises with the most effective and efficient way to ensure the continuity and security of network systems at the r user level, even in multi-vendor environment. The Dynamic Intrusion Response solution is one of a portfolio of Secure Network solutions offered by Enterasys and is the cornerstone to additional security focused solutions which will be announced this year."We are very excited about our Enterasys Secure Network." said Vinnie Cottone, Vice President of Infrastructure Services for Eaton Vance Management. "We believe that Enterasys has the best security offering available. It integrates extremely well into our infrastructure, including the new Dynamic Intrusion Response system that will shorten the response time to security threats and make our network even more secure than it is today. When our Secure Network is in place, we expect to enjoy uninterrupted network availability, business continuity and information asset protection, even in the face of today's most sophisticated security threats."
"To combat the enormous array of security threats facing the enterprise today, enterprises need to evolve their security infrastructure with holistic, system-level solutions in which security is pervasive, adaptive and active," said Jerald Murphy, Senior Vice President at META Group. "Companies should look for vendors that provide security solutions going beyond point product capabilities to deliver a much higher level of security and business continuity, without added complexity."

Together with this campaign, Enterasys unveiled a new corporate identity refocused on Secure Networks, including an updated logo and tagline, "Networks That KnowTM"."We believe that by investing in these targeted initiatives, we can continue our momentum, and create demand among customers.
