ANDOVER, MA-- October 6, 2003--Enterasys Networks Inc. (NYSE: ETS), a global provider of Business-Driven NetworksTM for enterprise customers, today announced "Secure Networks," a solution which integrates security and networking technologies to improve the effectiveness and scalability of IT security dramatically. With this solution, security is embedded throughout the network fabric instead of "bolting on" single-function security appliances. Secure Networks enable customers to respond dynamically to security threats to protect their critical information assets while increasing network efficiency and maintaining a lower total cost of ownership.

Often, customers are in conflict when it comes to balancing security and performance needs. The Secure Networks solution meets these needs by embedding security technologies in each product to more effectively respond to threats, increasing efficiency and reducing deployment complexity and cost.

"The power of Enterasys' Secure Networks solution was obvious to the College of William and Mary during the August Welchia worm attack," said Scott Fenstenmacher, network manager for William and Mary. "While other universities were shutting down their networks completely, we were able to manage the situation effectively through the use of integrated security. We dynamically rolled out policy updates across more than 600 switches to stop the spread of the viruses, even from student to student on campus. In the end, we had virtually no infection issues other than some individual student laptops."

"Today, customers are requiring security solutions that are easy-to-use, cost effective, and allow them to respond faster to a wide range of security threats," said Mark Aslett, president of Enterasys Networks. "To do this, security must be pervasive across all elements of the network infrastructure. Our Secure Networks solution gives customers centralized control of their network, allowing them to respond to threats in seconds or minutes, rather than hours or days, minimizing the impact on their business operations."

Enterasys' Secure Networks Solution
In addition to integrated security technologies, Secure Networks provides centralized policy management that allows customers to apply security policies based on users, applications or organizational priorities. And, using the advanced intelligence of Enterasys' User Personalized Networking, Secure Networks is identity-driven, enabling dynamic enforcement of network and security policies for each person on the network - regardless of their location.

Over the past several months, Enterasys has rolled out several solution components of its Secure Networks solution. Recently announced products that embrace Secure Networks include: Matrix E1 switches, the new XSR-3000/4000 series Security Routers, RoamAbout R2 wireless LAN (802.11a,b,g) Access Point and Radio Cards, and the new Matrix N7 and Matrix N3 switches. New enhancements to Enterasys' Dragon IDS and NetSight Atlas network management products will be announced in the coming months to complement Secure Networks as well.

"Insecure networks are costing business billions of dollars a year in lost productivity," said Christian Byrnes, service director for Security at The META Group. "In critical industries, the impact is on our national security. The dramatic improvements that are needed can only come from a few directions: better focus on security by organizations that connect to the Internet, and product innovation. Security enforcement must become an inherent part of every network decision and every network purchase."

In the coming weeks, Enterasys will hold a webcast on Secure Networks, titled "It's Not About Network Security: It's About Secure Networks." To pre-register for this event, visit: http://www.enterasys.com/securenetworks/.
