ANDOVER, MA-- June 16, 2003--Enterasys Networks Inc. (NYSE: ETS), a global provider of Business Driven NetworksTM for enterprise customers, today announced the new XSR-3000 and XSR-4000 security router platforms. These powerful additions to the XSR series are designed specifically to meet the networking requirements of large branch and regional offices, integrating wide-area network (WAN), virtual private networking (VPN) and firewalling technologies. Enterprise customers will benefit from a single platform that solves their remote office networking and security challenges and reduces operational costs.
“These new additions are the latest milestone for Enterasys’ XSR series of products, including the previously announced XSR-1805 and XSR-1850 for branch offices, and reflect the Company’s strategy to deliver comprehensive, secure WAN solutions for enterprise organizations,” said Mark Aslett, President of Enterasys Networks.
“With the increasingly distributed nature of corporate operations, it is a requirement today to be able to deliver high-end networking and security capabilities to branch offices,” said Lawrence Orans, principal analyst at Gartner. “This has created a new demand for integrated branch-office networking devices that can be managed remotely, but deliver similar performance and security to the equipment found in headquarters. These capabilities are becoming even more important as enterprises deploy high-end services such as voice-over IP and video.”
Enterprises are increasingly geographically dispersed, with critical information and key personnel located at remote offices. This trend enhances productivity but significantly increases the security threat profile for the entire organization. The best practice approach to protecting remote IT resources is a defense-in-depth strategy, with distributed security at every remote office. A comprehensive security router integrates routing and security into a powerful device for branch offices with a single, consistent management interface.
“We are truly impressed by the value that Enterasys’ XSR-3000 product delivers. Its combination of advanced secure access functionality and high performance will enable us to provide students, faculty and staff with real-time access to campus resources,” said Dr. Al Valbuena, executive director of the Office of Information Technology, Franciscan University. “The architecture of the XSR-3000 demonstrates how well Enterasys understands the needs of its customers.”
The XSR-3000 and XSR-4000 combine high performance and configuration flexibility to accommodate changing networking requirements. The standards-based XSR series fits seamlessly into existing multivendor networks and minimizes retraining requirements. Additionally, its support for popular network management systems and Enterasys’ NetSight Atlas management applications enables powerful remote monitoring. This is a critical capability for deployments at remote offices, which typically have limited on-site networking expertise.
“In this information economy, companies must provide seamless connectivity and enterprise class security for every remote office. The XSR-3000 and XSR-4000 series Security Routers address the networking and security challenges of regional offices and corporate data centers,” said Ben McLeod, director of product marketing at Enterasys Networks. “The security optimized architecture and performance-under-duress design of these new Security Routers ensure best-in-class performance and low cost of ownership.”
Each XSR product, including the XSR-1805 and 1850, offers comprehensive IP routing and WAN interfaces, providing high-availability wide area networking with the Quality-of-service (QoS) and policy routing features to deliver optimal performance for priority-sensitive applications. Additionally, its extranet, site-to-site and remote-access VPN technologies enable secure, cost-optimized and ubiquitous employee access across the Internet. And, policy-managed stateful-inspection firewalling protects intellectual property from unauthorized access and attack. All security options are remotely upgradeable, reducing the total cost of ownership when enhancing the capabilities of the XSR security router.
Enterasys also announced two new WAN network interface modules (NIM) for the entire XSR series: an ADSL NIM and a T3/E3 NIM that supports fractional connections. The XSR-3000 and XSR-4000 platforms, and new WAN interfaces, can be ordered immediately and will be generally available in July 2003.
