ROCHESTER, NH -- August 15, 2001--Enterasys Networks, Inc., a leader in enterprise network solutions, announced the immediate availability of the Aurorean ANG-1100 series of VPN (virtual private network) gateways. The ANG-1100 series is targeted at small office VPN applications that use broadband Internet services such as DSL and cable and that have no on-site IT personnel.
Enterasys’ next-generation SOHO VPN gateway, the ANG-1100, is available in two plug-and-play models. The ANG-1102 offers two 10BaseT Ethernet ports for easy connectivity to any Internet access device. Also available is the ANG-1105, which includes a 4-port 10BaseT/100BaseTX Ethernet hub and embedded hardware acceleration for more than 3 Mbps 3DES performance. Both models feature Aurorean’s EZ-IPsec‘ auto-configuration feature for one-button VPN connectivity.
"The introduction of the ANG-1100 series of Aurorean VPN gateways reinforces our aggressive targeting of the SOHO VPN market," said Ben McLeod, director of product marketing for VPN & Security at Enterasys. "The ANG-1105 model delivers high performance for remote office applications, PPPoE support for easy connectivity to DSL providers, connection simplicity for non-technical workers and centralized management and monitoring in a full-featured security gateway optimized for today’s telecommuters and small offices."
The ANG-1100 series provides the security, availability and mobility required by enterprise small offices. It supports any operating system and is ideal for use by telecommuters and small offices such as retail sites and insurance agencies. It protects the small office user from hacker attempts by using Network Address Translation (NAT) and a packet filtering firewall. The ANG-1100 also allows private Internet browsing through split tunneling and supports alternate paths to the central site using Aurorean's Auto-link Recovery‘ high-availability architecture. Support for up to 25 concurrent VPN tunnels provides low-latency access to distributed application servers. Transparent IPsec traversal and support for PPPoE ensure seamless connectivity to service provider networks.
Enterasys also announced the NetSight Gateway Monitoring Tool, a new, secure, centralized web-based management application for the ANG-1100 series. The NetSight Gateway Monitoring Tool features auto-discovery of existing and new ANG-1100s, remote firmware updates, and centralized SNMP monitoring
"With the large number of remote sites that we have on our network, the ANG-1100 looks to be a perfect fit for our needs," said Tom Hartman, director of information technology at Comcast Spectacor, an existing user of Aurorean’s ANG-1000 model. "We are particularly impressed with the new web-based NetSight Gateway Monitoring Tool, which will allow us to have secure, centralized network management for all of our operational locations."
According to Jeff Wilson, executive director of Infonetics Research, Inc., "In terms of unit growth, VPN appliances for broadband connections are going through the roof. The ANG 1100 meets the needs of the growing marketplace with its strong feature set. Users are buying these products in large quantities because they have an immediate need to connect broadband remote access users and sites."
A cornerstone of Enterasys’ Secure Harbour architecture, Aurorean offers a complete suite of virtual private networking solutions for mobile access, telecommuting, branch office and regional site connectivity.
