ROCHESTER, NH - September 19, 2000 Enterasys Networks, a leader in business communication solutions, today announced that it has entered into a sponsorship deal with the French National Rugby League team. The deal ensures Enterasys sole shirt sponsorship throughout the Rugby League World Cup, taking place within France and the United Kingdom, between October 28 and November 25, 2000. In addition the shirt sponsorship deal also covers all international matches this season.
As part of the agreement, Enterasys has also become a key sponsor of the French National Rugby League for the current national season, which commenced on September 4, 2000. On September 18, at a half time ceremony during the second televised National Club Championship match in Perpignan, South of France, Enterasys Networks proudly presented one of the new team jerseys to National Team Coach, Gilles Dumas.
Garry McGuire, executive vice president of world-wide marketing, Enterasys Networks commented, "Enterasys Networks is proud to be associated with the French National Rugby League team and the French Rugby League Association. France has had world recognition for its team-sporting achievements in the past few years, and we believe that it will undoubtedly become more prominent as a world-class Rugby League side in the coming years. We hope that this will be a long-term relationship between Enterasys Networks, the French national team and the national league association." Rugby League in France has a superb history, born out of the French desire to be seduced by sporting skills and excitement, only the fast moving league code of rugby could offer. French Rugby League's story reached a peak in the years after World War Two, when France were world champions after winning in Australia and Puig-Aubert - the famous "Pipette" - was the French nation's favorite sports personality. France staged the first Rugby League World Cup in 1954 and now, in the year 2000, the World Cup comes back to France as the men who wear the famous "tricolour" jerseys aim to show that Rugby League has a vibrant future ahead.
"French Rugby League is a wonderful example of what courage and team spirit can achieve," said national coach Gilles Dumas, himself a former captain and hero of the French team. "Despite being underdogs, France can be very proud of the young men who will represent their country in the World Cup, and we hope to make everybody at Enterasys Networks proud of us. Their support has come as a big boost to us."
"We wish the side well during the upcoming World Cup competition, and all of my colleagues both in Enterasys Networks France, and Enterasys Networks worldwide will be following and supporting their progress during this exciting world competition." said Gerrard Vivier, vice president of Northern Europe, Enterasys Networks.
